Direct Hiring Authority

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is at the heart of a national effort to create a modern, integrated, response-ready public health infrastructure to help protect communities from emerging and future health challenges. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has authorized direct hire authority (DHA) to the CDC to fill mission-critical occupations rapidly.

CDC DHA positions are listed on as public notices and some are open for multiple U.S. locations, telework, and remote work. Each job posting functions as a repository of applications. Applications from this résumé database may periodically be referred to hiring managers both during the open period and after the closing date. Because of the large number of applications anticipated, applicants’ status will not be updated. See below to learn more about available CDC immediate hire occupations and process.

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower GS level for which they are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
