DUTIES:
As a Physician (Public Health) you will:-Provide substantial input in the day-to-day technical and scientific planning, implementation, and analysis of the medical aspects of scientific research studies conducted by other scientists.
  • Generate new hypotheses and develops new concepts, methods, and strategies for obtaining and using data on the major medical and health risks associated with various scientific public health programs.
  • Conceive, plan, evaluate, coordinate and implement activities related to research programs and projects.
  • Serve as a liaison with other CDC organizational units, state and local public health officials, and other federal and non-governmental agencies, to achieve desired public health objectives.
  • Serve as scientific/medical consultant for assigned grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements with State and local health departments, community-based organizations, and other governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations.
  • Prepare and submit manuscripts on the results of scientific findings and related policy issues for presentation at professional meetings, and for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) https://www.ecfmg.org/, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Additional Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications applicants must also meet the following for Physician (Public Health), GP-602-14:

Four years of residency training in Internal Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, or possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GP-13 grade level in the Federal service to include experience planning, overseeing and conducting epidemiological research, surveillance and/or evaluation studies; and providing technical assistance in the development of public health guidance, data systems and management, policy and implementation of program and outcomes.

Note: A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or AOA.
