DUTIES:
As a Health Scientist you will:
  • Plan and conduct scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve public health problems
  • Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on operations that are critical to the public health community at large.
  • Review and analyze studies and projects assessing public health issues in order to make recommendations or processes, procedures and/or policies related to public health programs, practices and research
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to national, state and local health agencies and to various other organizations
  • Collaborate on programs/projects/studies and coordinates efforts, as appropriate, with other program staff, other CDC Centers, Institutes and Offices, other federal agencies, national, State, local health agencies, and private and non-profit organizations, etc.
  • Apply established methodologies and techniques to conduct data analyses to improve data collection using EHRs and evaluate data quality between abstracted and EHR data.
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform statistical analyses appropriate for complex survey designs.
  • Prepare scientific and other articles and technical reports for publication.
  • Make presentations at international and national meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Qualification Requirements for GS-601: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

For GS-12: In addition to the basic qualification requirements: applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, to include conducting data analyses to improve data collection using and electronic health record (EHR) and evaluating data quality between abstracted and EHR data.
